The University

The University of Patras was founded in the city of Patras in 1964 and it began functioning in the Academic year 1966-67. The establishment of the University contributed vastly to the decentralization of Academic Education in Greece. In June 2013 the University of Western Greece was incorporated in the University of Patras.


The University of Patras demonstrates a significant research activity and a reputation for quality and innovative research. Its faculty members are very active in publishing their research results and groundbreaking achievements in international scientific journals of the highest quality. Based on measurements for the period 2004-2008 the University of Patras holds the third position in number of publications among Greek Universities with a percentage of 12,4%.


The University consists of five Schools, twenty-four Departments with Undergraduate Study Programs leading to a specific Degree. Furthermore, the University of Patras offers thirty four  of Postgraduate Study Programs.
